Ruby

  • Check mounts and settings regularly

Sapphire

Diamond

  •  Keep away from other diamonds
  • Avoid grease
  • Avoid heavy blows
  • Clean in an ultrasonic cleaner (unless fractured)
  • Clean with mild soapy water or with a ammonia based cleaner, using a soft toothbrush.

Emerald

  • Wash in warm soapy water with soft cloth and soft brush
  • Keep in jewel box or plastic bag away from other jewellery
  • Do not wear when undertaking heavy work
  • Do not keep in dry conditions such as safe deposit box
  • Obtain professional re treating every few years.

Amber

  • Avoid contact with chemicals or hard objects
  • Wash in soap and warm water
  • Polish dry
  • Keep in soft fabric bag

Amethyst

  • Keep away from sunlight
  • Wash in warm soapy water
  • Rinse with clear water
  • Wipe dry and leave on towel.

Aquamarine

  • Wash in warm, soapy water
  • Rub with a soft toothbrush
  • Rinse in warm water
  • Dry on clean towel

Topaz

  • Gentle handling is needed
  • Keep apart from other jewellery
  • Wash in warm water with a drop of detergent
  • Clean with soft toothbrush
  • Wipe dry and leave on towel to dry completely

Chalcedony

Citrine

  • Wash in warm soapy water
  • Wipe dry and leave on towel
  • Can be cleaned ultrasonically

Garnet

  • Wash in warm soapy water using a soft brush
  • Ultrasonic cleaning can be used
  • Do not use steam cleaning
  • Handle carefully to prevent chipping.

Onyx

  • Store away from other jewellery
  • Clean in warm, soapy water
  • Rinse with clear water and leave on towel to dry

Opal

  • Keep in constant temperature to prevent cracking
  • Keep in soft padded pouch
  • Wash in warm soapy water and clean with dry or damp cloth
  • Do not use chemicals or steamers.

Peridot

Peridot is only of medium hardness and as such cab easily be scratched by other jewellery. It needs to be kept in a separate bag away from other jewellery. Care must also be taken when wearing a piece of jewellery such as a ring with a Peridot stone, as contact with a hard surface, can damage the stone.

Care must be taken to prevent contact with acids and also to avoid extremes of temperature

Pearl

  • Clean with soft, damp cloth
  • Avoid acids, perfume, any corrosive materials and heat.
  • Restring every one to two years
  • Warm sudsy water can be used

Tanzanite

  • Wash in warm, soapy water
  • Handle carefully
  • Avoid acids.

Turquoise

  • Wash in warm sudsy water with soft damp cloth and dry immediately.
  • Keep away from all chemicals
  • Keep away from jewellery and hard objects
